Abstract

The organization of public-private partnerships in European pension provision The boundaries between public and private responsibilities in pension provision have redrawn during the last few decades. One of the related developments has been the introduction of privately managed mandatory pension schemes and other hybrid public-private forms of pension provision. However, academic debates have not yet paid much attention to the organization of such public-private partnerships (PPPs) in pension provision, or public-private pension systems, which combine some institutional elements of public administration and private sector modes of governance. The purpose of the presentation is to map the institutional organization of public-private pension systems in Europe and to develop a typology for understanding the alternative ways of organizing hybrid pension systems at the level of organization fields. The analysis covers 20 schemes in 19 European countries.

The next lunch seminar will be on Thursday 9 January 2014, Wiemer Salverda (AIAS) – Labour-market institutions and dispersion of wages
