Abstract

The aim of my Ph.D. project is to find out to what extent the recent extension of late careers is a consequence of the implementation of public and private policies that aim at extending working life (EWL). This will be done quantitatively and for three countries Germany, Italy, and The Netherlands. Among EWL social security policies I will focus on policies that reduce the attractiveness of the early exit from the labour market. Among EWL labour policies, I will focus on policies that promote older workers’ employability, the reconciliation between work and older workers’ preferences and needs, and age equality. Since EWL policies are expected to have a different effect on the retirement behavior of men and women, the analysis will be conducted separately by gender. My presentation will focus on the research design of my project, and on the results obtained until now.
