AIAS Lunch Seminar 25 February - Jacqueline O'Reilly

Comparing Household Transitions between work and care in Denmark, Spain and the UK with ECHP data

Jacqueline O’Reilly (University of Brighton) and Tizana Nazio (University of Turin)

Abstract

In this paper we set out to compare household transitions between different work and caring arrangements using longitudinal data from the ECHP for Denmark, Spain and the UK. First we explore the diversity within three countries from a dynamic and longitudinal perspective. Second, we identify the characteristics associated with making transitions between different work-care arrangements related to three types of transition: integrative, exclusionary and maintenance transitions. We analyse these trajectories in relation to five levels of explanation: childcare provision (or the lack of it); individual’s educational status; attitudinal variables; their partner’s status; and the sector of employment. This presentation is based on work in progress.
